I removed a virus yesterday with MBAM and did a TFC susbsequently. This morning I noticed the Avast shield protection was turned off and when I reactivated the protection and then tried to update avast i got the error message “package broken”, both for engine /virus and for program. Have reattempted updates several times - no luck. Anything possible to fix? System is Windows Vista. Thanks.
Hello fckproblem and welcome to the forum.
Can you please cut and paste your MBAM log to the thread so I can see what infection and action you took?
Prior to this, did you have anything in the Avast Virus Chest? If so, what is/was it?
Was Avast working fine prior to you doing the MBAM scan?
Have you tried an Avast Repair:
- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
- Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
- Reboot.
Did you try to Manually force an Avast update?
Can you give me some information about your system:
- What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit?
- What version of Avast did you install? 5.0.677?
- What product of Avast did you install? Free, Pro, AIS?
- What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including antivirus (AV), firewall (FW), and other security programs? If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?
- Is your machine acting strange in any way now or before that prompted you to do the scan? If so, what is the problem and when did it start?
I followed your suggestion to repair via control panel. Avast is working fine again.
Many thanks!
