Oh okay, it sounds like you had a bad downloaded avast install file. That happens some times. Try downloading it again and retry your install.
Also do a clean install by rebooting your machine before running the install file.
I’ve subscribed to this thread so we can keep posted. Let us know how you’re doing on this. We’ll get you installed.
I will download it again and give it another go. Thanks again for your help
Fairly new to this sort of stuff,so can you tell me what a thread is and what it does?
Thread is a group or joint of related posts into the forum, I mean, each ‘subject’ discussed is a thread, for instance you started this thread called ‘Error message’.
To ‘subscribe’ to a thread, when you post click the option ‘Notify of replies’ bellow the box for writting. You will receive a email message alerting you that anybody else posted into that thread.
Wellcome to forums.
I am experiencing the same difficulty and have followed the instructions given multiple times, with no luck. I am using Win Me and have uninstalled previous virus protection. Any ideas?
What was the previous virus software that you uninstalled. Norton seems to not totally uninstall. At least, that is a common factor on this board with Norton being uninstalled and then Avast being installed.
Check out the advice on this thread and keep us posted. Thanks.

Did you try to delete all your temporary files and try to download and save the file again?
