Error :Not enough user rights to continue

Hi,
this is the first time this happend on my computer, while updating, I get an error message saying 'Not enough user rights to continue".
While there is only one user profile on my computer and having all administrator privilleges, this seems quite bizarre.

Anyone have a clue?

Login as ADMINISTRATOR and check the group policy settings.

I can check group policies and user profiles from within my current profile as my profile is part of the administrators group.
I can even delete and change other accounts!

ADMINISTRATOR stands above the administrator group

The error (3FB) means “System could not allocate the required space in a registry log.”
Maybe setup is incorrectly assuming that it doesn’t have enough user rights when it cannot create the test key… but the actual reason (for the impossibility to create it) may be different.

Eddy, I’m almost sure that only the admin group rights are required to install avast… you don’t have to install it like the ‘user’ Administrator. If I’m wrong, please, correct me 8)

Technical, I agree. But there are infections that disable certain rights with “normal” admin accounts. And only the ADMINISTRATOR itself can solve that.

Thanks for making it clear…
I don’t know too much about infection… I use avast!

Technical and Eddy, did you guys see igor’s post???

Yes, but he did not ‘solve’ the problem ::slight_smile:

reboot, and give the “3 finger salute twice” to log into xp with full admin rights.

that’s where I think igor is coming from

Boys, please re-read Igor’s message again.

There are few checks made before the main installing process starts if we can do some things. Instead of checking just the permission bits, we actually try to create some registry keys and files. If this fails (for whatever reason) we think we don’t have enough rights to continue.

This is exactly what happened here. We’ve ended with slightly misleading error message, but the one-but-last line had the real error message:

we were not able to write to the specified registry key because of error 0x3fb, which means “System could not allocate the required space in a registry log.” I’d check the available space on system drive, run chkdsk etc. There’s definitely something fishy on that machine.
