Error/warning 0000A413

Hi all

My wife was in her facebook last knight and today i noticed these in Windows Event viewer also they are in Avast log viewer. I did a search but got confused as there seems to be a lot of things this error can mean.

Error AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of hxxp://www.facebook.com/home.php? failed, 0000A413.

Warning AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: hxxp://www.facebook.com/home.php? (C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp_avast4_\unp198777298.tmp) returning error, 0000A413.

Using Win XP Home SP3. Also my wife was using IE8.
Any help will be very much appreciated, as i don’t even know if i should be concerned or not.

Edited… changed links so as not to actually, link to web site in case they are infected .
Thanks to mkis for pointing this out to me.

Hi there Pete319

I think they are termed soft error messages as they are returned from the browser to log files as opposed to being hard error messages which are returned to your desktop screen. They are still failings (in the scan monitor from what I gather) but not necessarily indicative of any serious error, especially when they do not return an error warning to your desktop screen. Your wife is probably on a limited account so therefore her resident scanner fails when it comes to scanning your administrator account (I presume) and this returns a soft error message to your event viewer. I think this is a common event occurrence and I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You will probably find someone else will come on later and qualify my post a bit.

Thanks for your reply mkis very much appreciated.

My wife is on Administrator Rights, i should have put that in my post :-[

Okay not that error, but still I don’t think overly serious. perhaps something about Facebook page that was not liked or unsure of. I imagine someone else will post tonight and throw bit more light on the situation. Regards.

Thanks
You are most likely correct as there has not been any other warnings when she has been on facebook.

Hi Pete (hope that’s the correct name). I was a bit quick to choose a common error scenario for Error AAVM in my first reply without checking the message close enough. I’ve checked the Facebook links and both are fine, so obviously the failing was elsewhere and not the Facebook pages (though Facebook is notoriously vulnerable to malware intrusions of one sort or other - granted I have never experienced such an intrusion myself at all, and I am a Facebook user).

I believe that Error AAVM is a generic messaging alert so looking further at x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx, here is a link that may help –

Perhaps go to Secunia and see what turns up. Perhaps need a plugin or something to view the Facebook pages, but I am just speculating. Obviously the hyperlink didn’t complete a couple of times and message is there to let you know that.

Perhaps something prevented render of page, or perhaps simply notify that didn’t render page. Whatever, almost certain to be minor. Goes through for you now, then all good. Keep an eye on event viewer if you want, just in case beginning of an issue to be concerned about, but I very much doubt it.

Just a extra note - normal procedure is to replace http with hxxp (or something similar) to de-activate the hyperlink just in case it turns out not to be a safe link.

Hi mkis Yep pete is close enough. I have never used Facebook.

Ihave read the comments in your link, i sort of get what they are saying, but i am not overly intelligent but get by.

I have Secunia installed and did a scan earlier today didn’t show any unsecure programs. In browser security Firefox okay, IE8 wasn’t said that there was no fix and i have noticed that i am not alone on that score.

I have got another warning this time me and using firefox.
Error AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of hxxp://suggestqueries.google.com/complete/search?output=firefox&client=firefox&hl=en-US&q=fu failed, 0000A413.

Warning AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: hxxp://suggestqueries.google.com/complete/search?output=firefox&client=firefox&hl=en-US&q=fu (C:\WINDOWS\TEMP_avast4_\unp15825515.tmp) returning error, 0000A413.

I have also de-activate the hyperlink just in case it turns out not to be a safe link. I also went and modified my earlier post. Thanks for the heads up on that. I will now do a quick scan using malwarebytes to see if it comes up with any thing

Here is malwarebytes log file which was clean

Yep I think you fine all the time. But some hitch every now and then means a fail in the link and this impacts on the scan / monitor process of avast (resident, so means it monitors all the time) - a fail in link like I might get a timeout or something every now and then, for example, and much same error message. And I do.

You can follow up by search 0000A413 on google or Windows support. I think if you really wanted you would eventually find something that needed tweak or tune, but if there is no hard error message to the desktop screen, then its almost certainly not a major. If things badly worsen of course, then it becomes a priority issue (I have to be careful here on the off-chance it doesn’t turn out to be minor - but all but definitely is, and I say this for others reading who may also come across the same kind of error instances).

Also, sorry about any oversights that I might make, I’m coming on and off the forum while I’m busy doing other things. But these ‘soft’ log entries are not serious issues. I think you fine. If you got the available time, its good practice to keep an eye on the computer and learn new things about it all the time.

Thanks for all your assistance mkis.

Glad it is nothing to worry much about.
I will use Google again and research and see what i can find.
If for some unknown reason it worsens i will defiantly ask for more help if i cant solve it.
Don’t worry about any oversight, your help has been great.
I do try to learn, but too much just does not sink in.

Once again Thanks
