Well error 5 is access denied and given it mentions the self-defence module, if you have a previous installation of avast, it might be blocking the installation.
Did you have another version of avast installed ?
How are trying to download (and from where), there are two general methods:
downloading the off-line avast installation file, which has to be saved to your hard disk and then run.
downloading the on-line stub installer, this is a much smaller file which essentially is an installation routine that downloads the required elements whilst connected to the internet.
Have or did you have another AV (other than avast) installed on this system.

You could try a clean reinstall:
Download the latest version of avast, 9.0.2013 (see below for download locations) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, avastclear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD.
Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 8.x if previously installed, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
Note: save the copy of avastclear.exe so it can be reused as some users are reporting that after running it, it is self-deleting.
