error while updating

i’ve been having errors updating. see log @ end of post.

i’ve disabled my zonelabs firewall AND made sure WinXP’s internal firewall is off.

i’ve uninstalled and reinstalled AVast several times, and nothing seems to works. here are the screencaps of the errors i’m getting:

any ideas?

thanks,
steve

here’s my log:

09.11.2004 18:18:10 STEVE-HOME\Steve 988 Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x20000004, dwRes is 20000004.

This is very common and has been covered on a number of threads, a search for setifaceUpdatePackages().

As is said in some of the errors, the server could be down for maintenance/heavy load, etc. try again if still no joy, try the steps below.

  1. Check and ensure that your firewall is not blocking avast.setup.

  2. Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

  3. If nothing helps, better is uninstall / boot / install again / boot

David, I think I know this text ;D

like i said, zonelabs’ and winxp’s firewalls are disabled.

this can’t be a server issue, cuz i’ve been experiencing the problem for over a week

when i try to repair the installation, i get a “cannot connect to server” error, like screen 3 of 4 in the images i initially posted

i also tried the uninstall / boot / install again / boot routine, to no avail

any other ideas?

Try right now… for me the server is ok and for you?

nope:

Error: can not connect to server

Remove Avast using the uninstall utility from the Alwil website. Reboot and reinstall Avast. Try again to update. If it fails. Completely remove ZA, reboot and try again. On occasion I’ve seen ZA still blocking inet access even when it was shutdown.

Try what Eddy said… Do you use a proxy filter?
The problem must be in your computer as the server is not down.

I hope so you wrote it ;D :stuck_out_tongue:

I too have just manually updated iAVS (dial-up connection) and no problem with the server connection.

A-HA!

I am finally able to run the update without error AFTER FULLY UNINSTALLING ZoneLabs!

It’s still extremely frustrating and disappointing, knowing these two utilites co-existing peacefully for so long.

Anyway, thank you Eddy, DavidR, and Technical for your help - I appreciate it!

It’s always the firewall :frowning:

And they should work again… That was any ‘bug’ or ‘trash’ left behind.

You’re welcome 8)
