Esnips search is my homepage no matter what I have done. I uninstalled the esnips download, deleted every file with esnips and logia, and every registry reference as well but the registry references keep being replace. How do I get rid of this pain in the neck? Avast scan did not find or fix it, neither Ad-aware or Spybot.
Try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
after install click update so you are scanning with latest database
if anything is found, click the remove selected button to quarantine the infections
you may post the scan log here
I suggest:
- Clean your temporary files.
- Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
- Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
- Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
- Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
- Clean your Hosts file (replacing it) with HostsMan tool.
- Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
- Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
- Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
Yes, I experienced this browser hijack when I installed esnips downloader. Even after uninstalling the application the browser was directed to esnips search engine. This is a nasty problem not detected by any adware detectors. I solved this problem by going to a previous restore using the windows restore utility. Hope it will help you to solve the problem that way.
