Essexboy, please help!!

Greetings!

I’m having the same problem that many others are having with WinXP hanging after aswrvrt.sys

I’ve followed the instructions at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=130459.0 and attached FRST.txt

Thank you in advance!!

Are you able to access the safe mode menu ?

If so select command prompt and type the following command

chkdsk C:/r

I can get the safe mode menu, but it just hangs at aswrvrt.sys
The only way I can get a command prompt is with Recovery Console from the install disk.

Run it from the RC command prompt as the indications are that the hive is corrupted

That worked! Thank you very much!!

That’s good, check disc is a handy command for windows loading problems

Following from the, I have had a similar problem as posted in many places regarding the constant rebooting if the windows 7 system I have at home.

@ Essexboy - I have followed your posts, am about to try chkdsk, but can only use it from the CD to get the command prompt, I’m not able to load windows in safe mode. I have also been able to run frst and got a log file from this - am I able to request posting it to you for your assistance please?

Thank you!

Run chkdsc from the recovery console and see if that helps

Done - thank you!! It took a long scan but it worked! Well done.
