ETA on Firefox 57-compatible extension?

I started Firefox this morning to see my Avast Internet Security extension missing from my toolbar and labeled as “Legacy.” Is there an estimated release date for a version that is compatible with Firefox 57? Although I have the web shield running in the background, I still feel vulnerable without that added layer of security (such as seeing those reassuring check marks by safe sites on search engines).

In the meantime, I will be running on Chrome.

Firefox 57 is currently beta, and will be the first version that requires all extensions to be WebExtensions. All Legacy extensions that haven’t been updated to WebExtensions version will cease to work. not just Avast.

I’m not using Avast Internet Security, but the Firefox browser extension included with Avast Free is not showing up as Legacy in my Add-ons list and the icon is still on the taskbar. I still get the “reputation” icons in search results like Google.

FWIW, my Free version is 17.7.2314 (build 17.7.3660.226) and the web reputation component is called “Security browser extension”. In Firefox the add-on is known as “Avast Online Security 12.0.296” with a subtitle of “Avast Browser Security and Web Reputation Plugin”. It was last updated on 10/9/2017.

It may be that Avast has a different plugin in AIS, but since the latest Free version has something that appears to be ok for Firefox 57 (i.e., not Legacy), then it seems reasonable that there should be something that would be provided for AIS, as well. Perhaps an AIS user can chime in.

Same plugin in AIS. What was stated is that you’re using a beta version of FF. Avast’s browser add-on isn’t the only browser add-on that isn’t working in the beta of FF.

@bob3160, thanks for clarifying the singularity of the Avast Security browser extension. Since neither the OP nor I indicated we were using FF 57 beta, I was speaking in terms of my experience with pre-FF57 and how it sees the current version of the add-on provided by Avast.

For clarification of my first reply, FF 56 is showing “LEGACY” for other add-ons like Form History Control, but not showing “LEGACY” for the cited version of the Avast add-on. My understanding is that this would indicate that the Avast add-on will be compatible with FF57. So in regards to the topic title, my experience would indicate that the ETA has passed and that the Firefox 57-compatible extension is already in place. I have not tried to confirm this by running a beta version of Firefox 57.

Since the OP did not include the version of the Avast product, perhaps its just a matter of getting the latest version of Avast and installing its Security browser extension.

Does this answer your concerns ???
