Eudora not working

Why did Avast stop allowing Eudora to send Email?
The error I get included “The server’s SSL Certificate was rejected…
Unknown Error” Plus a page of gibberish. Which includes:
“Issuer: OU=genetated by avast… for SSL/TLS scanning”

Eudora works on this computer for my wife’s login, but not mine.
What is Avast looking for?

What OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
Any other security software installed (or was there) ?

I know it’s “wikipedia” but I would still question the security of Eudora.

Since your wife’s system works and yours does not, what are the version differences
of both Eudora and Avast in the two systems ???

Thanks for all your replies.

I do not normally use Eudora to send e-mails.
Cox is my usual email provider. I just happened to try
sending from Eudora, and thought something must be wrong
if one works while the other don’t on the same computer.

Which is a CQ2010 made by Compaq. Somehow HP is involved.
Windows 7 home Premium edition.
Both versions of Eudora are 7.1.0.9
I don’t know how to tell the version of advast.
It is Avast! Free AntiVirus 2015

2099 points whatever they are.
Somehow a truncated verson of McAfee installed itself. I plan to uninstall it

If I say “Yes” to the message asking if I want to
Trust the Server’s SSL certificate, I get : “Eudora has stopped working”
I am unsure what certificate it is talking about? The email provider
or the Eudora program.

I am beginning to suspect that I was supposed to do some kind of install
for my wife’s login. I never suspected it was ignoring anything,
because I could see when it scanned, all her emails were included.
I also suspect if I were to do this “install”, her Eudora would stop
working. I doubt she would appreciate that.
We are newlyweds compared to Bob3160.Only 54 years.

I don’t use Eudora so hopefully someone else who does will jump in.
We may not be newlyweds but we still think we’re on our honeymoon. :slight_smile:

Two different things. Cox is a ISP, Eudora a application.
Somehow HP is involved.
Ofcourse HP is. HP took over Compaq in 2002.

I followed your instructions for removal of McAfee. What a hassle! Took over 1 half hour.
The link you gave ran about 5 minutes, saying it was removing things, but they were all still
there in Program Files.

The Microsoft uninstaller says the same thing it said before using the online (Ache?) uninstaller.
which is the wrong info that it is already uninstalled.

Trying a manual delete did not work. It says files were open.

Finally, Alt-Crtl-Del (Task manager) managed to shut down the scheduler, and I deleted it.
I am posting this in hopes that someone else trying to delete McAfee will see how to do it.

I found the version number per your instructions. It is 10.4.2233. I will get the latest version.

Done: now it is 11.1.2241. Problem with Eudora persists.
What server is the message referring to?

Personally, I’d drop Eudora, it was great software back then but is now outdated.
Use something that gets regular security updates, as e.g. Thunderbird or similar.

I have used Eudora since the early 2000s and will continue to do so as long as possible. My version s 7.1.0.9 which I believe is the last produced by Qualcomm. Yours may a later open source version based on Thunderbird. I have no problem sending or receiving emails. Avast version is 10.4.2233 Internet Security. Be sure problem is caused by Avast

Since his wife’s account is working, it doesn’t seem to be a problem with avast.
More likely the setup of his email within Eudora.
Could be avast’s certificate is not imported for his account.

b.t.w. you are using a old(er) avast version gresham.

I pretty much gave up trying to get my Eudora to work, but recently my wife’s account won’t download messages. Very odd: I can’t send, she can’ receive. I am attaching the message she gets. Very similar in appearance to my message.

Is this from Avast?

What server is it talking about?

Is there some way to temporarily turn Avast off so she can get her emails?

OK, another problem. I don’t see the attachment in the preview. I do see it when I post it.

Do you have that version installed ?
If not > perform a clean installation of that version and check if the problem is solved.

If the problem is not solved, disable TLS/SSL scanning in the mail shield and check if the problem is solved.

I was able to see it and it sure does give some useful information.

I installed that latest version. No help
I ran Avast, hit the gear icon, selected Active something, Selected Mail, turned off SSL scanning. No help
I ran Avast and turned Mail off entirely. No help.
FWIW, the error message is different. It mentions Verisign, not Avast. Does that mean I have some other Virus checker active?

Apparently something called a Certificate is somehow involved. Searching for that word got me a lengthy diatribe:

Does Avast generate a certificate when I try to use my mail program or is it part of Eudora?
Can I see it?
Somewhere I saw it mentioned that I may have to embed a certificate with my mail server.
Embed is another word that may just as well be in Cantonese as English. Yo no comprende.

OK Bob, I 've got some answers. If I run Eudora and select Tools - Options- Checking Mail, I see that the current option is Secure Sockets Required when Receiving. After attempting to get the mail from the server, I can use the “Last SSL Info” button to get info about the failure.
It says "Server’s SSL certificate was rejected. Server’s IP 98.139.211.220, SSL Version TLSv1.
There is another button to click: “Certificate Information Manager” Which shows a list of “Trusted Certificates”. Top of the list is one generated by Avast.
I can “export” it, which in this case saves a copy on my hard drive called certificate.cer.

What is missing, I think is a way to get this certificate to my email server.

Since you guys at Avast generated this certificate, isn’t there someone who can tell me what to do next?
