avast! E-mail Server Security - Exchange 2007 / 2010 Shield - “Protection Status: service stopped” - “Exchange Shield is waiting for the Exchange service to start”
The Exchange Server is functioning properly, but at approximately 2 days the Exchange Shield will stop. Rebooting the Exchange server will start the Exchange Shield again for another 2 days, then stops again. Why 2 days? I have attached the print screen.
recent update to the avast! Exchange Shield has solved the issue elsewhere. I want to make sure that you update to the current version and reboot. I have an open trouble ticket at avast support if we need it: “[RESELLER #MUJ-546609]: Exchange shield service stopped and is waiting for the Exchange service to start”
From avast!: “Currently we are already working on a new avast! plug-in for MS Exchange, which will be part of the new avast! 7 for servers. It should be available at the end of April.”
i have the exact same problem on two different servers unrelated to each other.
more info:
virus definitions version 120329-0
program version 6.0.1373
both servers show 6.0.1373 in RED with a link to update it, but updating says the current version is 6.0.1373
on one server i’ve already had a problem where uninstalling just the antispam portion broke the ms-exchange-transport service… and reinstalling avast not only reset the trial-version days to zero, but prevented the INFORMATION STORE service from starting (error from exchange: “unable to start virus scan”). so our only choice was to license it. upon licensing it, the exchange shield doesn’t work. great.
the other server was just a straight reinstall and license - the exchange shield doesn’t work there either.
i have seen 2 other threads about this specific issue but no resolution…
I had the same type of break where the transport and information stores refused to start after the business console was installed (v6) and the shields installed on the server. I opened a ticket and got a reply a couple days after the ticket was made :
Dear customer,
We have received and acknowledge your issue. Now we will analyze whether there is anything related to avast! that we could change, and if so we will provide a work-around or fix it in a future release. We will monitor how often this issue appears in our customer base and the impact on our market. If you have any additional information about the issue please let us know because it could shed more light on the issue and help us to solve it or identify the cause more quickly. Thank you for helping us to improve avast!
Best regards,
In the meanwhile client being unwilling to go 2-3+ days without email, We re-installed Win2008r2 +Exchange 2010 overnight at our costs(Thank God for backups and being anal about them). Needless to say both Avast and ourselves have lost a customer… There is no point in selling products for which we, the resellers, cannot have professional and prompt support as we carry all the burden of responsability onsite. - a forum and web ticket system is inadequate for resellers at the very least if not for any corporate structure + If the client sues my company for lost time and damages is Avast in Prague going to back me up, don’t think so. So dissapointing.
As much as I hate to I have to agree, we find ourselves in a similar predicament reasonably often and I am impressed actually that you got your ticket answered. It’s kind of hard when you really believe in and support a product enough to stake your own business name and reputation on it and for whatever reason (all we can do is guess) the backup is not present when we need it.
I live in hope though, the eternal optimist, but if things don’t change we may be forced to change our allegiances, as much as that goes against the grain (especially when we have stood behind the product so long and believe in it).
Another shame is that the targets that were not always easy to achieve have been upped again.
Not feeling the love or backing any-more that we used to receive from the support team.
I just encountered this exact same issue but on a virtual server that doesn’t even have Exchange or SharePoint installed. I am running version 7.0.1436 with update definitions. avast keeps telling me that 2 shields are disabled (Exchange and SharePoint) but this issue doesn’t appear on any of my other servers which also do not have neither Exchange or SharePoint installed. Anyone has found a solution? This problem appears to be well over a month old.
Similar problems here on SBS 2003.
Had old v6 versioni. it told me to upgrade to new v7. i did , and now my server crashes every time avast goes to access a file, and the exchange says stopped in avast, but exchange is runningh fine.
anyway, my next job is to keep server up0 long enough to uninstll avast. and get things workng again.
i saved a dump, but cannot get server to stay up long enough to upload to ftp.
I am curious if this has been resolved. Just did a fresh install of Avast 7 for on Exchange 2010 and I too am having this issue. Has Avast fixed this problem yet?
