Excluding one file does not work (Windows 10, free Avast)

Hello,

I try to have Avast ignore one file “C:\Users\paul\ssl.log” but it does not work.

I cannot delete this file unless I completely disable Avast and reboot Windows 10. Even then, it sometimes requires a second reboot. Windows Explorer says Avast has the file in use.

The file logs SSL keys from a Chrome browser session, so Avast thinks it is suspect. So far so good, but Avast should completely ignore this file if I tell it to ignore it.

Please advice what I can do, because I need to delete and recreate this file every day. I would prefer to be able to do this without disabling Avast (twice?) and rebooting Windows 10 (twice).

greetings,
paul

Hi,

Which settings did you use to exclude the file?
I would suggest that you look into Ransomeware (if you have not done so already), it might be protected
https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Antivirus-Ransomware-Shield-FAQ/

The setting I used is “Menu - Instellingen - Algemeen - Uitzonderingen” which translates to Menu - Settings - General - Exceptions (I don’t have an English Avast.)

Nothing is set in the ransomware section. Disabling the ransomware does not help, since deleting the file in Windows Explorer still has the “File is in use by Avast” error message. Even disabling all shields in Avast does not help, the file is still in use by Avast. The only thing I can do is “disable forever” and reboot. Then I can delete this file.

Hi,

Do you use any Avast browser extension?
Could you please provide me with a support file id?
To generate the support file, please see this link.

I have the same issue, it won’t ignore the file, it’s strange.

Sorry for the late reply…

I ran the Avast support tool and got fileID: 29LPM.

I took a screenshot of the message when deleting the file in Windows Explorer.

Hi,

Do you have the Avast SafePrice extension installed in Google Chrome or some other Avast extension?

Just checked, both Firefox and Chrome have “Avast Safeprice” extension (add-on) installed. Both times this extension is disabled.

No extra extensions of Avast have been installed.

Can an Avast browser extension lock a regular file on the C: hard disk ?
