Exclusion Folder not working?

Hello friends!

I’ve set up an exception folder by going into “settings”/“general”/“exclusions”/“File paths”. I keep getting false positives for certain programs and I wanted them to be ignored by Avast.

And, surprise!, every single time I launch those programs, they can’t execute as they have parts being blocked by Avast. I go look in my virus chest and of course those programs are here, being flagged as “Win32Malware”.

How the hell am I supposed to tell that program to leave them alone? False positives have been the reason why I didn’t use any anti-virus for these last two years, but I’d really like to keep using Avast. I find that program to be quite discreet and useful, quite pleasing to the eye, plus I’d like to keep protecting my system.

But I will delete it if I cannot use my computer without being hassled by false positives when I launch my programs.

Thanks in advance and… please help?

You can report a possible FP here: https://www.avast.com/contact-us.php?subject=VIRUS-FILE

That’s very kind of you, though I don’t see how it would solve my problem.

Do I have to report every time I get a false positive, praying that Avast includes it into the program?

Did you reboot after adding the exclusion?

I notice it really doesn’t work until after a reboot. Even though exclusions are still a bit buggy for whatever reason.

Yes, please do so.

Yes please, as that not only resolves your problem, but when the detection is corrected, it should help other avast users with the same programs/files, etc.

Here’s the thing. I don’t want to have to do that every time one program gets detected… I will do it, but I still can’t figure out why a folder that has been excluded is NOT.

What’s the point of having that feature then? :o

Yeah it actually happened just after the reboot. ^^
Thanks anyway for trying! :stuck_out_tongue:

What is the full text of what you have entered in the Paths Exclusion tab ?

The full path that I have entered is : D:\Games*

But it seems to be working now. I don’t know why but, hey!, I’ve seen stranger things happening with computers, even on linux set-ups.

Thanks to you all!

You’re welcome, strange but glad that it is working for you now.

A little check looks in order to me, just to make sure. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
