i’ve been using avast internet security for some years now.
What i am missing is a tool to password protect executables like firefox. I want there to be a password input everytime firefox and other programs are started. Is there something from avast? If not, can you recommend how to do this the best and savest way?
There are a lot of programs doing this in the net, but I always think they look kind of suspicios
I don’t feel like explaining why workaround solutions (nice solutions to a different question/situation, that I did not ask for) do not work for me.
I asked for something very specific, if you don’t have a suggestion for that exact question, I ask you to not answer at all. It’s kind of offtopic. Thanks.
What i am missing is a tool to password protect executables
That "tool" is called the OS. Use it. It is not a workaround, it is how you should do it. I can't help it if you do not understand how things are working and/or how to use the options you already have.
I need to protect executbales with a password, WHEN and only IF they are executed (that works most commonly by double clicking the executable, but any script starting the executable should still trigger the password protection), while other executables, that are on the same OS, same drive, same user-account, same everything are still executable. Everything you offered I know, but is not an option, otherwhise I would have used it.
Is it so hard to understand a question and answer it properly or not at all? You answer wrong, failed to adress the subject at hand. Maybe it is my fault for not explaining it properly, though I think I made myself clear at least in my answers.
To clarify the objective here. Following objectives MUST be met to solve the problem:
Make a password input popup appear for any chosen executable, when it is executed. It does not need fancy encryption, but obviously it should not be text-file-readable, like a password protection via batch script.
There is one PC.
There is one OS.
There is ONE user account and there CANNOT be another.
ALL drives and their content must stay accessible in general for ANYONE that uses that PC.
I do not need philosophical advice about how the OS can be used with UAC to restrict user X to access PC A, access drive B, execute, write or read file or program C. I do not need to hear about the advantages of a inhouse domain and correctly configured server for network usage or any of that. We use all that in our company for company files and that is fine, but does not fit my need, as I said before.
I suggest you use google and start looking for what you want yourself and don’t expect others to do your homework for you since you are so particular in your needs.
For the other two: Thanks for really helpful advice. I obviously did not search via google for myself. That’s how I figured out, that
So far I really am dissappointed by this forums community If noone here can help me, that’s totally fine. If noone ever used/has experience with the programs doing what I ask for, that can be found easily via google, than thats okay. But why do you guys either post with answers unfitting the demand, or trolling by “google it” “+1”? Is that really necessary?
As I stated I found those suspicious. How do you think I come to that conclusion? Only because they are there to download for free? Well… may be one reason…
Ofc I can always google more… naturally I have hours without end on my hand. How stupid of me to think to ask in a forum, if someone already has experience with some of the programs, maybe even uses one and is satisfied, and would like to share his or hers experiences. That’s certainly not what forums are meant for.
Well… I guess it was wrong of me to ask here. My apologies. Obviously noone can or wants to help. I am glad though, that I could provide something to push your post-counters with. Seems to me, that is the most important thing here. Getting rid of newbie-ranked people with their stupid questions about stuff no one needs coming in second, right? Congratulations. Succeeded.
