Facebook Viruses

Question: Has Avast virus database included the facebook virus stuff yet? Mine has not found any virus, but Facebook says I have one and cannot log in until it’s cleared.

Reason for Question:

So… they got real sneaky with those chat box link viruses… the guy I was talking to was actually talking to me while it made him post the photo. He was unaware of it and because we were talking, I clicked it. I went to a different page, and saw the ‘photo had been moved’ and it prompted me to click on something to download. I immediately closed all windows and went back and told the guy he was sending malware and reported him.

Now, facebook says ‘it appears you have a virus’ and my account has been suspended until it is fixed. It says I can follow steps to get rid of it, including a free download from Mcaffee, associated with Facebook. Instead, I ran all scans using Avast (free), and the windows malicious software removal tool, none of which said I had anything wrong… after that, and studying the facebook pages and urls, I downloaded the mcaffey, which I know was dumb, but everything did look legit at this point. I still can’t log in. of course, when I ran it… it did nothing.

I am a bad, bad monkey.

Hi BadMonkey,

Don’t you have any indication what virus, what virus Facebook indicates.
If it is a Koobface variant avast detect these as Win32:Malware-gen,
Do a scan with DrWebCureIt download from here: https://www.freedrweb.com/download+cureit+free/?lng=en
Do a full scan with MBAM, download from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php
Do a full scan with SAS, download from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
Remember after downloading MBAM and SAS to update to latest definitions…

Give us the log txt as an attached txt file in your next posting,

polonus

To me this sounds as you have been tricked to run/install some rouge program
So try the programs suggested by Polonus and post the logs

do you still have the McAfee file you downloaded ?

upload the file to www.virustotal.com and test it with 43 malware scanners
when you have the result, copy the URL in the address bar and post it here so we can see
