Fake AV malware - avast missed it.

I got one of those popups “scanning your machine - your machine is infected, download this .exe” ina windows XP blue explorer style window (webpage).

Ive had these for years, usually just close the window (which can be a pain also)

Well, on 4.8 Pro, the web filter did nothing, and I even decided to test it by running the free AV crapware - again it ran alongside Avast, constantly showing fake viruses, no uninstall option.

Is this something Avast is not willing to take on?

I stuck on Microsoft Security Essentials, it saw it and tried to kill it (however struggled as it was already on the pc).

I used spybot to remove the threat, was kind of dissappointed Avast was quiet all this time.

Any defs for these trouble programs to be in future releases?

[font=Segoe UI]Hi RugbyPete,

Would you please provide the name of the rogue AV and if possible, send the sample(s) (in case some components of the said rogue AV is still left) of it in a password protected compressed ZIP to virus@avast.com. Don’t forget to add some descriptions in the e-mail body, and the password too.

The best rogue remover is Malwarebytes Antimalware
