FakeFlash

Recently my husband’s laptop was infected with Pup malware something like FakeFlash. I don’t have the laptop in front of me now so I don’t know the exact wording. Malwarebytes detected about four and quarantined them. However whenever he visits a known site such as CNN, a window still comes up that he needs flash to view. He closes the window and all is well. How can I stop this window from popping up requiring us to install flash. I checked and flash is installed and updated on his laptop. Using windows 8. I did Avast scan and a Malwarebytes scan a few times and they come up clean but this window with the flash install does not stop popping up on websites. I also cleaned up with CCleaner. Please help. Thank you.

PUP is not necessarily malware…

PUP = not a virus / Possible Unwanted Program… so you need to know what it is before you take any action
file name and location should give you an idea

do you have latest flash version? http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

if you want a virus check, follow guide. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Is the flash plug-in in your browser disabled?

yes Flashplayer is up to date and with the latest security update. It is enabled in the browser. Malwarebytes detected them as fakeflash (PUP), four of them and they are in quarantine.

The culprit is probably a malicious web browser extension. This seems like a job for AdwCleaner:
