False alert on website? (was: Weird warnings)

In IE11 and FF27.0.1, every time I go visit the family history site: https://familysearch.org, Avast! free antivirus pops up the following warnings (below). IE and FF give different warnings. But when I check online scanning sites, they say the website is fine.

No Malware Detected by External Scan : http://sitecheck2.sucuri.net/results/familysearch.org
Detection ratio: 0 / 52 : https://www.virustotal.com/en/url/4a894fde07b8f1ec556b33dcfdc544cd1cf3bee8a10ce0effcf0fe0345d965c8/analysis/

Avast! is up to date:
virus definitions: 140305-0 (3/5/2014 9:23:23am)
program: 2014.9.0.2013

Any ideas?

Follow instructions, attach Malwarebytes and OTL logs

I know. It is weird. That’s what avast! says when I just use IE.

So are you saying that you trust the external web scans and we need to look at my box for infection? I have run SpyBot scans and avast scans and everything comes back clean. I am currently downloading Bitdefender to see if it can find anything. I will also get those files for you.

Hi,

Sybot search & Destroy is outdated. You are btter off with MBAM. Second, OTL will help us find the root of the issue.

It looks like I had Malware.Trace on my computer (see attachment) which MBAM removed easily. I rebooted as instructed and the behaviors mentioned above went away. MBAM doesn’t find anything now.

I also had Adware.InstallBrain in a file being downloaded from the Internet but it looks like it was stopped mid-download and blocked.

After some reading on the internet, I think I will continue to run Avast! free edition + MBAM free version and quick scan monthly with MBAM.

Thanks for all of your help.

i recomend attaching OTL log so a malware expert can look for leftover files that need removal…
