Hello all and first of all congratulations to the team of avast, my fav antivirus for 2 years at least
I recently had a problem with avast, recognizing the file REC_MNG.DLL of dvbdream (satellite tv software) as trojan. This file is important for the program to make a recording of video or audio and as soon as it is moved to chest, dvbdream says that there is no space in disk to make the recording (which of course it’s not the case).
I tried to update both the program and the database but it didn’t work.
You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here. You can’t do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.
Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.
Difficult to say… some signatures are being added to avast first than other antivirus.
But in this case, as you know the software source, please, send it to virus (at) avast.com for analysis and mention a link to this thread in the email body.
They usually correct false positives very quickly.
