Weatherbug has a long history of being regarded spyware.
I prefer Desktop Weather by The Weather Channel
I have run ( Malwarebytes, Anti-Malware ) and ( IObit security 360 ) and (SUPER AntiSpyware ) and just finished a FULL scan using ( Avast ) ALL 4 programs found nothing!!
Yes they found nothing as of the moment but just wait until you try uninstalling it… I had weatherbug on my PC as well. Worst mistake I ever made. If it’s not spyware, then by all regards, it should be referred to as Malware. But you really cannot go wrong, with getting rid of it.
I didn’t say it is spyware, just that it has a long history of being regarded as spyware.
The arguments about whether or not it’s spyware bore me.
Regardless, I prefer Desktop Weather by The Weather Channel.
And no offense but I did not ask whether you thought it was Spyware. My comment was directed towards 1010101010101010101010101. I’ve had weatherbug and I’ve had my issues with weatherbug, as well as everyone I know, who have had the same issues with that application. That is why I lean more towards malware, in reference to the nature of this particular application. These are just my opinions, from my own headaches with this application.
I appreciate all the replies and the little bit of bickering ( BUT ) this hasn’t helped or answered my question, I know YEARS ago weatherbug did tons of complaing to all the security software people to get their program to NOT show up as some type of ADWARE and they wetre obviously succesfull in their bid I only know of one program that still says weatherbug is adware and that is spybot but spybot is so behind the times and out dated I havent used it in at least 3 or 4 years.
I took the file weatherbug.exe and scanned it using virus total and got a big fat ZERO nobody said it was any type of anything plus I have been using weatherbug for quite some time with NO problems ( weatherbug even ships on NEW computers right from the manufacturer )and especially not a program calling it a TROJAN HORSE like advast appears to have, so that is why I was asking if it was a false positive, anyways it has not done it since I posted this and it was only that one day.
Obviously the program itself is not a TROJAN HORSE sooooooooooooooo is it possible that when it was CONNECTING to what ever it connects to that some how a Trojan horse was trying to attach it self to weatherbug? ( did that make sense? ) ???
Well i not prefer this too becuase i have it
and Kaspersky block a trojan from a update
and if you take a look in update link you see words like wzeus /forceupdate etc and it downloads viruses
I received the message about the Trojan also; “JS:Downloader-ABY”.
Should I worry? I’ve already removed Weather Bug until further notice.
I would love hearing from the experts here…
