Avast notified me of a virus in the following program: cqPhoneSetup2203.exe
After checking this program with Jotti, I find that avast! is the only AV program to report
this as a virus…
Some further searching revealed the following:
Avast Antivirus False Positive
Avast antivirus is reporting a false positive that CQPhone installer contains a trojan. The problem happens only on the installation .exe, not on the installed files. We have complained about this to Avast and they say they have fixed the problem in their latest update (Aug. 23, 2005).
Unfortunately, the problem still isn’t fixed. Any help from the Alwil Team would be greatly appreciated.

No other antivirus programs have this problem. I am currently using AntiVir which I find is very good. I have used AVG which is also a good program. Many people are using Norton.
RejZor, sorry to disagree.
AntiVir has TONS of false positives if you use Heuristics. TONS of macro viruses false positives too. Well, no antivirus is perfect. I think you’re talking too hard about this summer lazy avast! updates.
I’d rather a false positive than lack of detection.
Unfortunately I can’t because avast! is blocking access to the file so a transfer isn’t possible.
The version that was giving me the fals-positive was 24o3. apparently the latest update 2404 doesn’t give this
error. I’ve deleted 2403 and downloaded 2404 without any problems.
I’ve also sent the following e-mail to them:
( Avast is reporting a false positive on CQPhone.
Please choose a more robust antivirus like AntiVir or AVG. )
Please note that the false positive only applies to your version 2403. There is no virus detected for version 2404.
All Antivirus Programs are prone to occasional false positives. I’ve used avast! for over 2 years and strongly object to the fact that you’re recommending switching to another AV just because of a simple false positive.
I’m a former AVG user and switched to avast! because I’ve found it to be less demanding on my system while still keeping me save.
Please re-word your strong statement.
Thanks
Well, that’s strange. I found cqsetup2403.exe somewhere on the web, but avast! does not detect it.
If it was cqPhoneSetup2203.exe (i.e. version 2.2, not 2.4)… well, may be possible, but I really cannot get the file anywhere.
CqPhone is no longer been detected as a false positive. I spoke with the programmer of that application and he told me that the older versions (2403 and earlier) are no longer used. He advises everyone to use version 2404 (currently the latest) and will make a note of it on his website.
Thanks to a good cooperation between Alwil, Bob, Douglas (writer of that application) and me, this problem can be considered as solved.
Douglas, if you read this. Thanks again for you fast response and information.
