Avast is suddenly coming up with an Adware warning on one of our products (that hasn’t been recompiled or changed in any other way for the past 4 years !!!).
This is hurting our company image and our sales, obviously. Since we’re the ones ourselves recommending Avast to all our customers… now how ironic is that ???
Please advise on how to proceed to get Avast change it’s code !?
Yes, that’s all nice and dandy, but mainly aimed at USERS, who may or may not even change their local Avast settings to not be bothered by the false warning.
I am talking about Avast obviously mistaken some bit-combination in a product for a virus… without bad intentions, I am sure.
I’ve done some more investigation and it appears that the actual bit-combination is in an ‘installer package’ that has been used by our distributor. It is not in use anymore, but our products are ‘wrapped’ in it, and so are others.
The product itself (including the installer) is a 500+ Mb file that I can hardly attach to an e-mail.
Is there an official way to get in touch with the maintenance people of Avast???
The information applies to you too. Send the avast! team an email stating the problem and make the file available somewhere if possible:
You can also add web address to that file (or webpage of the file/program) if it's on the internet.
Add your own note on why do you think that it's a false positive. Every info helps Alwil staff.
Send the mail to: virus@avast.com
You could also send the file to ftp.avast.com but you’ll still need to send the email to let the team know the file is coming and what it is (i.e., a false positive and what the mis-identification is.)
The distributor packages our products and adds an installer. The resulting file is ONE .exe including everything. In this particular case over 500 Mb large, but if it is indeed in the installer software, there will be many more.
The software used is QSetup I believe.
I am new to these forums, so have no idea who is ‘official’ and who isn’t. Couldn’t find a support e-mail addy on the Avast site, so decided to try here. Apologies if it isn’t the proper forum
… and the information needed is in the last paragraph at the bottom of the page.
If you have any suspicious files that are not detected by the latest version of our antivirus programs, you can send them to virus@avast.com. The ideal way to send such files is to compress them as a ZIP file with the password 'virus' (so that the attachment is not deleted by some other antivirus software on the way)
This would also apply to a false positive such as is being reported here. In the subject of the email, type in ... False Positive ... so that the proper attention will be given.
Posting on this forum is helpful also, and not only for you, but helpful for those of us who try to help others. Now, if someone else posts with this problem, we have a reference point from which to begin to help them.
