False Renewal Claim?

Hi,

Just had a nasty shock. Whilst emailing I noticed a Windows warning flag. I clicked on it and it told me to switch my antivirus on. Must be a mistake? So I opened Avast and there was a big red message telling me my computer was no longer being protected, my subscription had expired and my pc was at risk! I was sure that I was still in subscription so I clicked on the “I have a subscription” link but nothing happened. In a state of some panic I then upgraded the subscription that Avast had opened for me.

After I paid I went into my records and saw with anger and incredulity that I still had a previous valid subscription dated 08.12.12 - 08.12.2013. I raised a ticket with Avast, there has been no reply yet. I then raised a dispute with PayPal and the Nexway / Luxembourg aspect of the Avast corporation. Have heard nothing yet.

My computer was left without antivirus protection for an unspecified time this evening. I received no warning that Avast was about to consider my subscription expired and no warning that my antivirus programme was about to be terminated.

What is going on please?

Yes, I got the same message today. I checked my subscription status and it said 212 days left. Is it some kind of virus?

Check your system date day/month/year is correct and adjust as required.

If it is correct - Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.

Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.

You may need to reboot after the repair.
