FAT32/NTFS?

I want to install linux on my PS3, but I won’t unless I have a backup ready.

The problem is that when I connect my harddrive to the PS3, it says ‘Connect storage media to save location’(not exact, but you get it)

I have read that is because it is not the right format and ps3 only reads FAT32.

Now the problem is, there are documents on the harddrive that I do not want to lose when formatting.

Can Computer files be put on FAT32 (If i copied to my computer first, then put backon later)? And can computers read FAT32?

I don’t see why not. Most flash memory/ thumb drives ect are FAT and I don’t have problems with moving or storing files.FAT drives have a 4GB file size limit whereas NTFS does not.
hope this helps

Yes, windows operation system can read/write FAT32 too. but just a few slower than NTFS.

Here you get more info about NTFS, FAT: http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm

Since I dual boot Linux and Windows, all of my sticks are formated for FAT32, to allow both operating systems to read/write to them. The easiest way I know to format them (I’m sure there are other Windows based ways to do that too), is to boot an Ubuntu Live CD, and then go to System > Administration > Partition Editor (or Gparted, depending on the version used), and format the drives there. Simple instructions would be to erase what you have, choose “New”, and then choose “FAT32”. (See the Help documentation if you’re unsure with what you’re doing.)
