hello, i just now registered for this forum. i don’t know if this is the proper place to present this question, but here it goes…
i have received several “fatal error” messages from java within the past couple of months. does this have anything to do with avast? i have had java for several years, but only recently have i received these messages from them…i didn’t think they had anything to do with blocking viruses. the messages indicate that a malware has tried to infect my computer. my computer continues to run fine, but i am concerned that something may be going on behind the scenes.
Click the “Start” button on the desktop, followed by “Control Panel”, “Java”, then “Java applet runtime settings.”';
Click the “View” button, then double-click “Java Runtime Parameters.” In the parameters box, type in a number that is larger than half of the computer’s RAM;
Click “OK” to apply the settings, then restart the computer. The Java Runtime Fatal Error messages will now be corrected;
thank you polonus! i got as far as java runtime parameters, but since i am not computer literate, i’m afraid i have no idea how large my computer’s RAM is. any ideas about what number i should type in? also, there are several runtime parameters…so do i insert a number on each one?
To open System Information, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Information. In the left pane, select System Summary. The Installed Physical Memory (RAM) entry in the list tells you how much RAM your computer has. Now take that number to establish a number that is larger than half of the computer’s RAM to give in as parameters as mentioned in my earlier posting,
