Feel Abused

Last week my premium anti-virus suddenly stopped, the warning was there and when I clicked ‘resolve’ nothing happened.
I contacted avast and they logged in remotely, I spoke to a guy called Johnathon, he was American accent and very laid back, I told him I was a novice with computers and all he kept saying I would need to have the pc serviced for £79 one off or £129 for a year. he said the pc ‘probably’ had a virus so I said if that’s the case your antivirus protection isn’t very good. he kept saying I have done something ‘negative’ but what the hell ‘negative’ meant, ive no idea. he wouldn’t give me anymore help apart from try to con me for £129. in the end I hung up. since then its taken me ages to uninstall avast, and then reinstalled it and now its working fine but the avast rep was clearly trying to abuse my naivety :-[

avast doesn't do that. What you did was calling a third party that only handle a very small amount of things for avast. https://www.avast.com/total-support
Installing your Avast, Configuring your Avast, Updating or uninstalling Avast

What you should have done first was performing a repair of avast.
Very likely that would have solved it.

Hi splatty,

I am really sorry of what happened. I will investigate it and will contact you later

Thanks Eddy for the tip, I just called the number on the Avast website so assumed it was them and when he said he could only service it, I wasn’t aware of any ‘repair’ procedure

Best support is here in the forum, and it is FREE

I wasn't aware of any 'repair' procedure
Avast 2016: Repair and reset Avast Antivirus > https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204#artTitle

ive been browsing this site for about a month now and all the anti malware team and Avast Überevangelist guys are all very friendly and seem to respond very very quickly to issues people have.

thanks everyone for their comments, i’ll surely use this forum again if anything goes wrong in the future ;D

How does the average user know it’s a third party support:

Nothing explains that it’s not Avast, nothing says that the best support is on this forum. :frowning:

avast! still sticking with these phony scammers. If this was my company I’d sever the ties with them after 1 day.

It would be easier to run an open forum (no registration, just bot check) with casual people moderating it 24/7, where people could get the usual problem solving regarding installation and other smaller things. Opposed to current help over this phone line where in 99% of cases, they say computer is wrecked, there is a virus and then they charge stupendous prices because people don’t even understand what the hell they are being offered.

That would be pretty much this forum then

You have to ask the question…Why?
