I have Avast Antivirus Premium security version 20.8.2432 (build 20.8.5684.604). I have File History in Windows 10 set to run daily and backup my files to an external disk. I noticed that the backups were not being performed. Did some reading and it said to turn of ransomware in Windows Defender. Since Avast is my antivirus, I went in and turned off the Ransomware Shield. Within a few minutes my file history was backing up my files again. I need to know if there is a fix for this or if I can have some of the ransomware shield turned on. What should be on and what should be off for file history to still work? I also have Cleanup Premium installed.
You aren’t turning off ransomware in Windows Defender (not even sure if Defender has a ransomware option), even so when you install Avast (or other 3rd party antivirus) the Windows Defender should be disabled by Windows.
If you can identify the file name and location of the file history backup process, then you should be able to add it to the Exceptions.
