File scan slows down my mac, a lot. It didn’t use to be like this. Now I have deactivated file scan until further notice. Please mail me when it’s returned to normal.

Strange that you’re having that problem. I can still use my MAC Book Air fairly well even when a Full Scan has been initiated, though I do have 8GB or RAM. How much RAM do you have installed in your Mac?
Also, have you tried emailing support@avast.com about the problem? Perhaps they can help identify why the slowness issue is occurring for you?
Andrew - did you notice when it started to happen? After a product update, etc?
Would you mind to send us your support package to let us analyze the issue?

What model of Mac do you have? Modern Macs with Solid State drives should not be impacted by the scan so much.
