Mozilla is planning to release another update to Firefox (Firefox 1.0.6) as early as this week! The reason: API changes in 1.0.5 unintentionally broke some extensions. From the article:

Just days after the releases of Mozilla Firefox 1.0.5 and Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.5, it appears likely that 1.0.6 versions of the two applications could be coming as early as next week. It is understood that API changes in 1.0.5 unintentionally broke some extensions. In comment 45 of bug 300028, Rafael Ebron said yesterday, "We received feedback on 1.0.5 from distributors and extension developers on API changes that affected them (not a security issue), so we're looking at a 1.0.6 to fix it." It is known that the Enigmail PGP extension for Thunderbird does not work in version 1.0.5.

I’m already using FF 1.0.6. Looks like finished version (no othr pre-release tags mentioned, also packed in official installer) ??? But it suppose to be the nightly build though…

I assume there won’t be loads of new features in it then?

Nope,looks identical to 1.0.5 …

In fact, this is not good news but necessary one.

FF 1.0.4 has a serious security issue, in which script can be executed through xml even when users turn it off. 1.0.5 overcame this issue but it is found to corrupt some extensions.

Please read this.

Open-source or not, there is no perfect app and users should be well-informed.

Dang ! I held off downloading 1.5 version till yesterday as it was obviously in great demand, didn’t want to stress their server’s.
When looking for updates of extensions I have , within Firefox , I did note there was a problem, and a message stating this function wasn’t available .
At least the problem is quickly being resolved.

Hello ye all,

I have the 1.06 allready on the machine, and the Dutch version.

greets,

polonus

Enjoy your 1.0.sixth Foxie! ;D

Hi,
I think i have some problems with my firefox 1.04
I now that the current version is 1.05 and soon there will be 1.06 but for first time there is no message from firefox that there is a new version.
I even make a manual check and it still says firefox can’t find new updates.I’m I the only one having this problem
Hope in the new version this will work again.(1.06)

Go to http://getfirefox.com/ and download it manually as usually it takes some time to get the message from autoupdater. Also, I or someone else will announce about new Foxies in the future so in this forum you’ll get all up-to-date news. be safe!

hello  There is nothing wrong with your Firefox. The thing is that from Mozilla don’t put the update immediately on the notification server or something like that for the reason that if milions of users start to download the new version the servers won’t stand this loading. If you want the new version immediately you’ll have to download it manual. I hope that you understand me because I hardly understand the thing that I wrote  If I am wrong please someone to correct me

You’re doin’ fine _x_m_a_s! I understood.

Downloaded and installed F/F 1.0.6 last night and it is all working well. The auto-update function was always too slow for me anyway. (I never was very good at waiting)
Still prefer Opera though, but then, I drive a Citroen too… It’s cool we have a choice!
Happy days to all

One thing I wish Firefox could do is incremental file updates… rather than having to download the whole program everytime there is an update. If avast can do it, why not Firefox?

Because Firefox is not an antivirus! ;D

Yes i understand you _x_m_a_s! .But that’s the first time firefox doesn’t tell me about the update.
Big deal   ::slight_smile: :stuck_out_tongue:
BTW you are from Bulgaria _x_m_a_s! ,aren’t you?

Yes I am ;D

Wow, I just found out that they plan to make a newer version of Firefox which will allow incremental updates! Cool!

From: http://news.com.com/Mozilla+IE+7+to+boost+Firefox+growth/2100-1032_3-5794785.html?tag=sas.email

The auto-update system, which Dotzler described as a “world-class update system,” will allow users to automatically install patches and updates, rather than needing to reinstall Firefox each time an update is released. Version 1.1 will also include improved tools to lock down browser preferences, he said.

WoW!
That’s great
