I installed Firefox 5 and was notified that WebRep was being disabled. However, since then Avast will not update, either automatically or forced. How do I fix this? I am running Avast Free version. The Avast icon shows in the system tray (Win XP SP 3)and it tells me that it is enabled. It just reports that attempts to update it failed.
That has nothing to do with firefox 5 as the avast update doesn’t use a browser to do its updates, so there is something else in the mix.
What errors are you getting when you try to update (try clicking on the pop-up to see if it has more info) ?
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.
Thank you for your prompt reply Asyn. Your suggestion worked perfectly.
DavidR, the Avast dialogue box would respond to an update command, but then I would get an error message in the lower right of the screen saying that the update attempt failed. I had not thought to go to the Avast website to see if there was a more recent version posted, since my updates up to the point of installing FF5 were current. Since FF5 also disabled other add-ons, I made the assumption that somehow it was not playing nice with Avast AV.
FYI, I am running the Windows Firewall since I am behind two routers. There does not seem to be any conflict such as there was when I ran ZoneAlarm FW. Thank you again, both, for you timely and informed replies.
