I’m using the Avast 4.8 Home Edition. I did a Scan the other day and when completed there was no viruses BUT I got a note indicating the Scan could not go through what appears to be a Firewall, Sorry but I’d have to run the Scan again to get some numbers. You’ll have to excuse me because I’m somewhat Computer Illiterate, now getting to the heart of the problem my ISP is Dial Up which in itself can be Slooow at the best of times. My Internet Speed is way down almost to slow to download anything without loosing the Signal altogether. I’ve been on the phone to my ISP and they say it’s either the Phone Line ( Ma Bell ) or a Firewall slowing things down. Now getting right to the problem , I’d like some help in clearing up this mess if it is a Firewall holding me up. Thanks for Your Help
What type of scan (avast, other security application) as avast on-demand scans are local system and shouldn’t have to go through any firewall ?
So we really would need to have the full error text.
Well avast isn’t a firewall so that would fall to something else, but I would suggest it is Ma Bell buck passing. I have dial-up, but I’m in the UK and about 5 miles from my exchange so speeds aren’t 100% but I still manage to get a download speed 4-5KB per second, which equates to 1MB every 3.5 - 4.0 minutes.
I have a good firewall and avast with the web shield running and I don’t see any appreciable issues. Yes I can get some bad days but they aren’t that frequent.
I would ask Ma Bell to do a line check and see if there are any line quality issues.
If you don’t know which firewall is in your system, probably it’s only Windows firewall and it shouldn’t bring problems to avast.
Can you explain a little bit more what exactly is your problem? We’ll be glad to help.
I did a Scan the other day and when completed there was no viruses BUT I got a note indicating the Scan could not go through what appears to be a Firewall...avast! scans will report that it couldn't scan archived files.
It’s most likely the phone line. My mom has had phone line problems. Verizon owns the lines, but she uses Cavalier phone service. Verizon doesn’t like competition. Since Verizon owns the lines it has to fix them, she has to call Cavalier & Cavalier has to make the call to Verizon. Verizon drags it’s feet.
I don’t like Verizon. I used to have Verizon DSL. I’m now on Cox cable internet.
