Help Please,

Avast status said my firewall is off.
i cannot turn it on

i use windows 7

my avast version:2014.9.0.2018
Definition: 140521.1
No of def: 2.229.208

please help

Is it avast that tells you or is it the windows action/security center?

it is avast that told me.

there is an attention: Firewall is off.

but when i click “Turn On”
new window pop-up, and inform “Unable to start Firewall”

and if i click “resolve all”
new window pop-up, and inform “The following components could not be started”

See if a repair of avast solves it.

i already did it before.
but it does not solved.

What if i uninstall and install it again.

i bought 3 licenses. but used 1, so far.
if i install it again on the same cpu. is another license would be use or not.

You can use the same license as you are using now.

For a real clean install of avast I recommend this:
Go to the windows update website. ( http://update.microsoft.com ) and install all updates available for your system.
You may have to visit that website/reboot multiple times before everything is installed.

Check device manager and make sure there are no errors there at all.
No red cross(es), no exclamation mark(s).
If any is there, solve that first by installing the latest correct drivers for the device.

Next:
First make sure there are no remnants of a previously install av other than avast.

  1. Uninstall Avast by control panel [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
  2. Uninstall in Safe Mode using Avastclear.

  3. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn’t) - reboot.

  4. Be Sure Too Check Once Uninstall is Complete:Device Manager>View>Show Hidden Devices
    If there is anything related to Avast with a yellow triangle then uninstall it (highlight, right click) and reboot.
  5. Install the version you downloaded.
  6. Reboot.
