I have avast antivirus and secure line vpn installed on my surface pro 3 running windows 10. the firewall wont stay on. what would cause this?
What version of Avast? Free, paid? If paid which version. If free, which firewall?
Paid version 19.5.2378 Build 19.5.4444.5000 I only have one connection to this computer cat 6 wired directly to a router. wifi is turned off I have the secure line VPN product also. its also turned off because it blocks my connection to other computers on my network. If i go to settings and click repair and restart my computer the firewall starts to work. Why is the version number so important? are there some versions that work better than others? If so can i roll it back to one that does have a firewall?
By paid version, is that Internet Security or Premier ??? If so, they both include the firewall.
Right now the only problem is that on some systems the firewall doesn’t retain its private setting and on some systems switches back to public.
In the public setting, most internet traffic would be blocked. This isn’t the problem you reported.
I asked for the version to make sure you’re using the most current version.
Avast internet security is the version i have purchased. It’s not switching from public to private setting. the Firewall is turned off, and all the time its saying your protected! but there is no firewall so I’m not protected. if i go to settings and turn it on manually it will go green but it doesn’t stay on. as soon as you close the settings page it turns back off.

Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
