i put a password on my avast home edition and i cant remember what it was. is there anyway i can reset it? i have tried re-installing but it keeps the password.
When you said you re-installed, did you mean uninstall and re-install?
Down load the newest version of avast and the removal utility from here

Save them to your desktop (easy to find there)
Uninstall via add/remove
boot
run the utility(make sure that you use the browse to get to the right folder, the default is c:\program files\alwil software)
boot
re-install
You should disconnect from the internet while you are doing this. Your old key, if not expired will still work.
If you use the uninstall tool (after using Control Panel applet) you will, for sure, reset this password.
