There was a debate some time ago in this forum about the safety of Format Factory, the free file converting program attracting millions of downloads because of its serviceability. The uninst.exe component of the latest Format Factory download was flagged as a trojan on my machine. Is this a false positive? In which section of this forum should I put this question if not in this section?
If you read the forum section name and the info text under it
Avast Free/Pro/IS/Premier (!) Avast Free/Pro/IS/Premier topics and issues, not viruses or false alarms here!
So next time use Viruses and Worms forum section
What was the full message from avast when detecting the file?
Have you tested the file at www.virustotal.com if tested before, always click rescan for a fresh result
You may post link to scan result here
You can report False Positives here https://support.avast.com/ → avast virus lab
Thanks very much for the information. I deleted the uninst.exe file after it was flagged as a trojan, but might have it on an external drive I use for copies. Will continue the discussion in the appropriate section after doing the recommended test, if necessary.
