anyway…Tomsguide…how good is this test?..is it just like those youtube tests?

Sorry, you probably realize that I’m not on the forum much anymore due to lack of time.

Tom’s, while being pretty much the authority on hardware reviews (at least at one point in time) probably isn’t the best at A/V tests, but I’m glad they gave Avast a good recommendation.

This page has their methodology on testing, I guess you can think what you want of it. http://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-free-antivirus-2012,review-1767-2.html

hi
I personally take these “tests” with a pinch of salt,
The only test that i worry about is if when im on the web and i come across a piece of malware and it is dealt with and avast has done this very well for me.
It depends what sort of user you are and if you surf on the dark side then you deserve to get infected.
I try to surf responsibly and ive never come across one bit of malware yet.
The you-tube tests i find very bizarre and the chances of coming across ten or more pieces of malware in a row are very unlikely so i give these tests no credence what so ever. The final “verdict” is merely that single testers personal opinion.
Ive tested avast myself and it has stopped every single thing ive thrown at it.In my view you dont bombard a chosen product with countless malwares and then discredit the program because it misses a few.
If you bang at a door it will eventually cave in.
Regards.
