Hey
I have tried to run a full scan on my pc. Avast will not do it. I have reinstalled avast and it still will not run a full scan. It will only run a smart scan.
How did you try to run a full scan as at first it isn’t immediately clear how to run a Full Scan ?
AvastUI > Protection > Antivirus > Run Full Virus Scan.
Or do you mean something else, like it remains on 0% for a long time (EDIT - mine did but did start now running, see image2) ?
Hi David
I tried to run a full virus scan but it stayed at 0% for around 1 hour. I tried this 2-3 times. I also reinstalled avast and tried again but it still was stuck on 0%

That is a known bug in the UI.
Don’t abort the scan but just let it finish.
This has been explained in many other threads.
Mine only took a few minutes to calculate what had to be scanned whilst it is doing this it sits at 0%. A lot would also depend on just how much data you have to be scanned, this XP Pro system I keep pretty clutter free, if I have a program that isn’t used frequently then it is likely to get uninstalled.
That said, an hour and still on 0% can’t be right unless you have a massive amount of data and drives ?
Regardless of what Eddy said I wouldn’t wait anywhere close to 1 hour, my scan nearly got cancelled after a few minutes of waiting.
Personally - With a resident (on-access) scanner the need for on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part dormant/inert files are being scanned, the other active files are going to be scanned by the resident shields when they are activated.
It is very rare that I bother with on-demand scans, usually in beta testing and as a result of questions in the forum. But if you want to do it then it should work in a reasonable time frame.
Do you happen to have any other security based software installed (anti-malware, etc.) ?
Sorted
Removed a bunch of programs that I don’t use. % went for 0 to 10 quit quick.
Thanks for your help
You’re welcome.
