On Saturday afternoon I downloaded the Free Avast Basic on my sisters comp and since doing this the computer has been unusable, it scanned the drivers for 12 hours and still cant use properly, the only way to use the comp is in safemode \i thought if I restored it to a date and time when it was working prop would work but I can’t access this.
I have unistalled the download but comp is still not working.
I am not very computer savvy can anyone help please

Some information on what version of avast free you installed and system info could help ??? also what AV was installed prior to avast and how was it removed if you did remove it ? any other security software installed ?

I can only remember is being the avast free basic, there was avg installed but out of date this was removed after installing avast, the comp is a HP xp windows can’t help with any other info not very computer savvy sorry
It is best to download whatever AV you are going to use, saved on to your hard disk. Then uninstall existing AV before installing replacement, as the existing AV can mess with the new installation.
Ensure that any remnants of AVG are removed - Uninstall possible remnants of previously installed AVs see, http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.
we can’t actually use the computer, it opens up in safe mode everytime, I was able to unistall Avast but still not working.
