From where do viruses originate

I have read in a magazine that antivirus companies only create viruses so that they can sell their product and Kaspersky being no.1 to do so

Do u think its true?

If not, from where do they originate ??? ???

it is possible, but i do not think it is happening (or at least not done by the famous companies  to stay in the conspiracy corners)

a virus is either out to destroy data because the writer has a grudge towards the target but also spreading it more to see the effect… (these virusses aint that much around anymore nowadays i think)

other virusses come from people that want to get sensitive data or gain (undetected) access to the computer to control the computer to do tasks for them without the computer owner knowing…

from these perspectives you could deduct basicly 2 groups

 1. hackers that want to destroy things
 2. criminals that hire hackers to gain financialy very rewarding information.

so its not really that AV corporations send out the virusses, they make money with their products but as long as there are the people mentioned above the AV companies dont need to send out virusses themselfs

ps: no i dont work for any AV company

I don’t think that’s the case really. There is so many malware released daily that AV companies have the least interest in creating it just so they could sell their product. They have enough work by adding means to detect it.

BEWARE OF THE SNAKE OIL !!!

Vintage Snake Oil !!!

Once upon a time there were only a couple of hundred computer viruses … but even though they were few in number, they managed to grab plenty of headlines.

“Virus” was the computer buzzword of the late 1980s. Few people knew much about them, and entrepreneurial antivirus vendors took advantage of this by feeding mountains of hype to journalists who wouldn’t have recognized a virus if it bit them on the nose!

Even though it is an advertisement for eset NOD32 the words are good and well worth reading the whole article.

Most people call any malicious file a virus. It’s not quite right. Viruses fall into the general category of Malware. (the linked Wiki page gives you an introduction to the basics.)

As for legitimate AV companies, like Kaspersky, (or Avast, or any of them) actually releasing malware to boost sales/marketing, forget it.

Anyone doing this and claiming to have a security-based solution is the marketer of a rogue product. This market obvioulsy sucks in a lot of users, because it’s worth millions. Maybe tens of millions.

The trojans/rootkits/worms etc largely come from software engineers who are payed by crime syndicates. Whether for marketing rogue products or stealing sensitive information, it’s a big business.

The days of the bored teen sitting in front of a home-made computer in the basement and cooking up malware code for kicks (if those days ever actually existed- like Hollywood would have us believe- ) are pretty much over. Well, it probably happens, but it’s not the main threat.
