Hi

I am new to Avast so this may be a straight forward problem, but I cant find anything related here on the forums.

Although new I have been using Avast for a while with no problems. However, with the recent updates I have found that I cant get any games to run. When I place the discs in the DVD drive my taskbar etc locks and I have to hit the reset button and re-boot.

If I use msconfig to switch Avast off - I can run the games fine. ???

I do like Avast and would like to keep using it - however - I play the games online and this is no good if I have to switch the AV off.

I am also running Zone Alarm fire wall and have seen some problems relating to that - but nothing like this.

Any suggestions?

What operating system do you use?
What exactly are the “recent updates”, i.e. what version is it?
Does it happen with all games (from what you’ve tried), or just some of them?

I am using XP SP2

Avast is 4.6.732

It happens with all the games I try and with the differetn users on the PC as well.

It was fine before the recent updates. That is the only thing I can think of as I have not changed anything else.

Strange… what if you just stop some of the avast! resident providers (e.g. Standard Shield), using the blue tray icon - does it help? If yes, does it help just to pause the relevant provider(s), instead of stopping?
