GammaInstaller.exe

Hi:

I had this Gammainstaller.exe in my C:/ drive inspite of having Avast & ZA. it has not done harm, I did delete this, but since its deletion I have msconfig coming up at every start up expecting me to choose normal boot up/ safe boot, and it asks me if the computer has to be restarted. This happens every boot-up. I ignore it, is there a way of getting rid of this msconfig coming up every startup.

Thanks
Alan

So, did you delete the .exe file, or its startup reference using msconfig? (or both)
What is the exact message you get from msconfig?

I deleted the file, and I believe my computer is safe now. But,MSCONFIG dialog keeps coming up at every satrtup. Now how to do I change that and not make it come up every startup.

Thanks

Aj

I believe it is coming up because you deleted the file and it is trying to load it at start-up. If you are sure it is bad, you could remove the msconfig entry for it. Usual government health warnings, doing this can seriously effect your system health.

I believe msconfig gave some strange warning when you disabled a program with it; it could be stopped somewhere in msconfig… but i don’t remember much more right now.

What exactly does the dialog say?

I did a boot-up scan and found 7 trojans Trojan-w32 [UPX] in WINNT/System32 folder I wonder how it got there. In any case msconfig comes up at startup I looked up at startup files, I dont see any malicious program calling it. What about carpserv.exe? I though it is part of my modem drivers?

The msconfig says that the systme was not started with normal boot up. I do have Linux and GRUB Boot loader installed, It keep asking me if do a diagnostic boot up, or selected Boot up. I dont know. But the problem has surfaced since I accidentaly clicked gammainstaller that was resident in C:/, it started opening a route for Trojans to get in, AVAST notified, then I shut the INternet connection and deleted GammaInstaller. SpyBOT says not spyware now. I believe it is not beocoz of Linux, as I had Linux prior to this. It is more of a nuisance than a problem.

I may be missing something obvious, but the msconfig message is still a mystery to me. Could you post a screenshot of the message when it appears, please?

I had this in MSCONF.INI

HKLM..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

I removed it, let us see if it comes back

Thanks

Alan
