Getting 90-99% cpu usage on Avast Premium on Windows 10

This is on a brand new rig I got 1 month ago. Fresh Windows 10 install. Running Avast Premium. Task Manager shows the avast process consuming anywhere between 20% and 99% of the cpu. My cpu is an 8 core running 4GHz so this is just ridiculous! All shields in Avast are turned on. The cpu usage of avast will fluctuate wildly, but even when my computer is idle it will jump up to 90% usage. BTW since I pay for Avast Premium Security is their a help ticket I can open? If so, how do I do that? Windows 10 is fully updated as well.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of Kaspersky Anti-Ransomware…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Premium Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premium_security_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
