Getting a Network Shield Warning continuosly...

Hi.

Since I installed Avast Home 4.5, I´m getting from the Network Shield warning continuosly, and are listed as attacks.

I´ve never got these kind of alerts so I´m wondering, why am I getting them?
Avast gives a message saying they´re blocked but, what are these DCOM Exploit attacks? Should I be worried?

I use WinMX and KCeasy for P2P download, and I´ve updated Windows 2000 every time there´s an update. I´m using a Dial Up connection.

On Access Network Shield Log:

Hi, this simply means that a remote party is constantly attacking your machine (not an unusual phenomenon).

I guess it’s time to get a decent firewall.

Are you using a firewall?

The network shield is informing you of intrusion attempts by worms from those ip addresses.

Hehe given the ping rate to 66.98.80.92 it’s quite likely another dial-up user…

(I’m getting like 1800ms ping on this host ;D)

So a Firewall should get rid of that kind of intrusions?

1.What do you think of turning off the Show Warning Messages box?
2.Will Avast give me a message when a real problem comes even if I turn off that box?
3.What will happen to my pc if these attacks continue?
4.Can you tell me of a firewall for home use and low cpu usage?

Best is to use a router with build in firewall. (about 40 euro)

If you can’t afford that or don’t want to spend money, there are some freeware software firewalls

Kerio
Outpost
Sygate
ZoneAlarm

Sygate Personal Firewall :stuck_out_tongue:

Free BTW.

If you dont use a firewall you are more likely to get infected by worms.

How much memory do these Firewalls use?

I´m ready to download Sygate but I want to know that first.
I just want a firewall not a bunch of applications with a firewall.

All the ones I mentioned are just firewalls. None if them is using a lot of resources.

And even if they did… Safety is more important.

Well even the Windows XP integrated firewall would get you rid of such attacks… but it’s not easy to configure if you require some networking features to work

I´m using Windows 2000, not Win XP…
I think these are messages for the Windows Messenger, but time ago I deactivated the service.
Has Windows 2000 some kind of firewall features that I could use?

Win2k has no firewall.

Can you help me?My v. is 4.5.523 and virus database 0447-0.When i go to control panel add-remove avast change and check the network shield, i robooted the computer but network shield still isn’t in the installed providers(windows didn’t restart, there was a message that windowas is busy, and i clicked to end task-is this the reason?)And when i updated to this version and restarted the pc(the internet stopped for a while) in few minutes there was a warning message(error while trying to attempt update)The automatic updates are set to ask when update is available. When the internet camed i manually updated and everything was fine.So is now everything ok with my avast and what to do to make the network shield working?

No there is no problme just my windows it’s 98

The Network Shield is only available on NT-based systems (Windows NT/2000/XP/2003).

On the other hand nor Blaster not Sasser did not affect older Windows systems (9x, ME)

Pavel

True, but sasser can definatly run onolder systems and that way infect other systems
