Getting a refund

Avast are making this impossible. They have a ‘helpful’ guide to the stages for a refund but the stage they omit is when they pretend to connect you to live chat. However many messages you send they never connect you to a human. It is impossible to get past this chat stage. Very clever, Avast. Obviously intended to deter customers from pursuing their rightful refund.
But, despite your dubious practices, treating us as if were stupid I WANT MY REFUND. ITS MY £49.99, NOT YOURS

Having the same issue!

But whats the answer? What can wd do??

Me too, I have two products that I want refunds on and I get an automated email telling me to contact an adviser, the number in the email was the same number i saw on their website to call if in the UK. When I called it it says the number doesn’t exist!!!
I am now escalating my refund through paypal instead as I have tried multiple ways to get in touch with Avast and can’t. I want my money back NOW!!!

Do I have to resign myself to losing my my £50?

Having the same issue. Closing the option to chat also just seems to cancel the process. I got no notification of my refund being in progress. Not on the account page or through e-mail so I can’t even see if my refund request went through. In the meantime the chat never connects…

After keeping the chat open for about 2hours I got connected with an employee. They offered me a few options but in the end I went for a full refund. Even though I get that avast wants to retain customers this is not the way. Throwing up barriers on refunding a purchase/renewal is borderline illegal. This should’ve been a process that takes a few minutes , it ended up taking 2.5hours.

Well done. Thats encouraging. I yawn at the thought of devoting 2.5 hrs of my life to such sn unworthy cause. I think they only get away with it as they are based outside UK. I think i reac that ghey are a czech based company? If so, surely subject to D U laws/standards

Luckily I have multiple screens so I was able to keep the chat open while working on my main screen but it is definitely a rediculous amount of time for something as easy as a refund. However they had billed me 130 euros which is more than double the price that I usually pay and I was not planning on letting that slide.

Sorry aby my terrible typos. I couldnt see the whole reply box!

Has anybody ever managed to get through to Avast customer service by phone?? (Incidentally, the number they give does work - just omit the 44 and stick on a leading 0 ie 0808 281 9549. It seems to work. in that I get connected and press 9. Now I’m on hold (‘high call volume’ why doesn’t that surprise me??!). I’ve been holding 15 mins so far - not long on the scale of things, compared with your 2 hours for the chat, Brian. At least the chat doesn’t involve this terrible music…

Hooray - good news! I got through to a real person (goodness knows which country she was in…). I had the entirely expected tussle about why I wanted the refund. I just said I don’t want the product, that I’m entitled to a refund and that’s my reason! I had to repeat a few times but she soon realised I was serious. I insisted she send me the confirmation email and that she stay on the line until I’d received it - which I have done. Lets see if the money appears! If so, bye bye avast. Whole thing only took 20 mins, of which 16 was waiting on hold. Easy, really

Good to see that I’m not alone! I have tried in vain to get in touch with Avast, to communicate with a “human person”. I would like to cancel and get a refund, but - as some of you have experienced - I get no confirmation of having successfully submitted a request for a refund. I have deleted the Avast AntiTrack app/programme, so my computer once again is behaving normal. I ordered on March 8, so still have some time before my 30 day refund period is over, but am beginning to think I won’t be able to get the money back. I can’t call from the location I’m in. What can I do?

Look at my 2 previous replies. Honestly, it worked!! I couldnt believe it either. And i got my refund 24 hours later. So it can be done.

can someone please help me, i struggle to understand what to do as english isnt my first language. i tried to get a refund through the website and the order history but of course couldnt, i see now that is normal. lovely. what can i do now? i cant call any number, how can i get to the chat? would that even help? im lost, and this is a lot of money i need back :frowning:

It’s not particularly easy. I found I had to be very persistent. Although I dislike phoning call centres, I ended up phoning and the assistant sorted out my refund very quickly - and I got the money soon afterwards. I don’t know where the call centre was based (I guess not UK), but I don’t think English was the assistant’s first language. If you call, ask to speak to someone who speaks your language - or another shared language if you speak any others. Likewise, it occurs to me that if Avast sells in your country, they should be prepared to speak to a customer in their own language - or if you need to write, again, use your own language and they can use Google translate - their problem, not yours!

thank you, i’ll try. is there no other way, then? do they just count on the fact people will give up? this is awful
