Ghostery the natural partner of NoScript

Hi malware fighters,

The extension to be aware of and to better block browser tracking, web beacons, Flash cookies and also to get further information on advertorial trackers and monitoring inside the Mozilla browser and as a nice companion of the script blocking plug-in of choice NoScript and RequestPolicy is the latest version of Ghostery:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/policy/0/9609/87218?confirmed
Tracking is done by advertorial firms, but also by governmental organizations etc.
The phone home function is opt-in and the older version also had this, as the extension is now owned by Betteradvertising and is sure to help their profiling,

For me it is no natural partner (to anything) as it caused me no end of grief.

It caused problems with my PC shut down as even when firefox was closed down its process was still running. It took ages to find it was the cause, once removed no more shutdown problems.

It would be one of the natural partners of NoScript, I guess, but personally, I am wary of it now that it is owned by an advertising company. Thus, I will not be using it.

I am a more wary of advertising companies, search engine companies et al, especially after looking at some of the articles on http://www.benedelman.org/ . That’s just my opinion, though.

As with most things, I would say read, read, read & keep reading (to protect oneself).

relying here on NS and ABP, nothing else …no way I’m gonna add Ghostery or Request Policy, that makes the browsing unbearable, spending more time to allow or deny than actually surfing ::slight_smile: On a side note, there was a link posted here recently, the future of Ghostery may be isn’t that compromised. The article was mentioning some close collaboration between the new owners and developers…anyway, not for me

Well if it is down to the blocking you could also add some subscriptions for ABP+,
for instance from here: http://www.fanboy.co.nz/?p=29
install from http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/
And the object dimensions list specifically for FX: abp:subscribe?location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fanboy.co.nz%2Fadblock%2Ffanboy-adblocklist-dimensions.txt&title=fanboy-dimensions-adblock

enjoy,
