Working on a computer which is obviously infected with something, is working hard, running slow and that Avast frequently blocks bad web pages though we are not browsing at the time. The warning messages include sites like http:/54.68.168.160/cgi-bin/ads/… http://s.vb3k.com/crossdomain.xml and http://go.wvydeo.com/presults.jsp?x=0g

Per your instructions I have run and am including logs for Malwarebytes and FRST.exe. I am also running ASWMBR but it has been running a very long time (almost 2 hours so far) and has not yet produced a log file. Let me know if you need it and give me some idea of how long it is prudent to wait before restarting and trying again.

Thanks
Ed

ASWMBR ran over night and I am adding the log. If not right here check down a couple of replies.

POWELIKS is present. Sit tight and wait for help.

Thanks

Any idea how long it will take for someone to reply to this?

Thanks

One of our main removers is back from Vacation. I will see if he can drop by for you.

Michael, I may have solved it.

I had missunderstood your previous message “POWELIKS is present. Sit tight and wait for help.”
I thought “Poweliks” was some power user on the forum that I was to wait for ;D

Once I realized that was the name of the problem I found a page over on Bleepingcomputer that had a link to a tool from eset that seems to have done the trick quick. The computer in quesiton has been running for several hours with no further warnings or apparent symptoms.

Thanks for your help. Would it be ok if I posted the links here in hopes it might help others?

Very sorry for the lack of Answer.

I’m glad you fixed it. However I will warn that those Tools are used by Experts.

Case Closed.

I will ask someone to come over and remove the tools you’ve used.

Edit:

Missed this:

You’re Welcome. I’d prefer not. Just because those tools aren’t usually for Standard Use. (Although some are OK like TFC (Basic version of CCleaner) and AAdware Cleaner (Targets Adware (PUP)).

I am not entirely sure if the ESET POWELIKS Removal Tool is for Public Use w/o an Expert being Present.
