Every time I open up IE 11. Avast pops up informing me that it has detected an unsafe web browser. Is Avast totally crap or what?

IE is a browser … bing is a search engine
You should try to concentrate on getting details right. Details often matter.
Based literally on what you’ve shown, it’s users of Avast who apparently gauge Google UK as unsafe.
Is relying on the opinions of other users en masse to determine what sites are trustworthy the best idea? That’s up to you to decide.
There are ways to disable parts of Avast, such as the “Browser protection” component. Go into your Programs and Features control panel, right-click Avast and choose change. Then consider removing some or all the entries from the center column. You’ll still be well protected from actual malware as long as you continue to use the Web Shield in the left column.

I think there is are legitimate questions to ask about this.
On the face of it is clearly AVAST which is flagging what looks like the normal Google start page, which milllions of people use as their home page, as being an “unsafe search engine”. But all may not be as it seems.
I’ve just been to the Google start page yet there’s no problem for me with Firefox, Opera or IE and the AVAST WebRep icon is showing all OK.
So why is the OP getting that AVAST message?
As the others here have said the important part of the AVAST warning is the “Show Details” button.
That will tell you where it thinks there is a problem.
The fact the warning appears when IE launches with Google as the home page does necessarily mean that Google is the culprit. It is a warning about a particular search engine which is installed on IE. Perhaps it is a dodgy secondary search engine that has been added to IE by the user or, much more likely, by some sneaky malware.
If it is the later then AVAST’s or IE’s own built in protection may have been stopped it hijacking your home page too.
I have no add on’s and I have not tried to open more than one website using coma or semi colon delimiters. This is a problem thwt does not exists in firefox or any other browser. It should be able to be TURNED OFF as it is annoying.
There is a details button and next time this CRAP pops up I will get a screen print of it also.

The only add on in IE11 is Bing
Click the IE icon on the left side and re-post the image…

I think I’ve got the same problem as OP. I’ve run a full virus scan which hasn’t picked anything up, but every time I use google I get a virus alert.
Is it some sort of forwarding malware?
Paulotuatail, you’re upset that “Browser Cleanup” has put up information you don’t agree with…
What merit do you see in continuing to use “Browser Cleanup”?

The problem isn’t with google but with the link you select to click in a google search.
You could have used Bing or Yahoo and if you had selected the same search result, you would have gotten the same warning.
