Google Chrome automatically installed no option to not do so

Time to go to another anti virus, If I wanted a snooping data collecting browser I would have installed Google. However, I choose not to do so, but you idiots tell me there is an important update, click to install, by doing so I end up with Google? When a program starts deciding what should be on your private property it is time to get rid of that program. IT IS MALWARE-SPYWARE-VIRUS, it is absolutely no different than someone invading your computer and stealing your information or adding a program to do so.Avast, you have become an evil.

Goodbye with no regrets. I will also advise anyone I know to stay clear.of your malware.

Hi crustyasp,

Then you never saw the possibility to untag. You have choice and to-day a lot of software downloads come bundled where you untick not to get a browser, a toolbar etc as free solutions come sponsored and developers want a living. It is just as with a burger, you do not want the pseudo-cheese with it, you won’t find that in the ordered burger on the counter, same here…

Lol. Do some research before making a post such as this. Google Chrome is the safest and fastest web browser around. Don’t be mad at Avast when you clearly missed the check mark to install Chrome or not to install it. What’s the big deal anyways. Just unistall it. It’s that easy.

Hi Aventador,

That is not what the discussion is about here. I write this posting in Google Chrome driven by Privacy Guard flaw with ScriptSafe and various other security extensions installed and I only would use the browser when I have firefox safety standards (with add-ons). Google goes a bit further as security “user script” extensions can be installed with just one click.
The suggestion of this browser especially for all those folks in the world still out on XP for various reasons is a valid one.
Only as a lot of us here have said in that case it should be presented as an opt-in and not as an opt-out, that apparently our friend crustyasp missed and what enfuriated him a tad. Of course I do not know what the Google bundle conditions are and what avast is bound to do, could be one only can untick to undo the additional install…

May I suggest that you simply uninstall the Chrome browser if it’s not to your liking.
It happens to be my default browser but we are talking about your computer and therefore,
your choice.

Thank you Bob. I even use Chrome on my iPhone. Best browser around. Add Ad Block Plus and Do Not Track Me its even more secure. Just read the text got articles about it. We have all our work computers running Google Chrome as the main browser. Mainly due to its sandboxing of tabs.

People often make posts like these to cover up for three own mistakes. I have never seen Chrome install itself when installing Avast. And I have installed Avast on over 100 machines.

The browser battle isn’t anything new. We all have our favorites. For me the browser is a tool and I use all of them even if my default is Chrome.
It’s a fact that the major browsers are all about equally ‘safe’. As to spying, they are all also equally guilty.
Your computer, your choice - My computer, my choice.
Peace.

Hi bob3160,

I will tell you even differently, I often switch between my personal browser flaws. I use Google Chrome while it is fast and I can just launch up several scans from a url anyware in the browser for example to VT, DrWeb’s, BitDefender TrafficLight, send url or ip tp urlquery dot net (yes via an extension), same for quttera’s scan etc. like a http://scanurl.net/?u= bookmarklet , http://soswebscan.jobandproject.com/beta_scan.php etc. etc.
For specific other purposes I use my personal flaw of flock, that I upgraded as it has been left with some code of my own and it has NS and RP extensions aboard to be able to keep it secure, if not rendering I switch again to google’s Chrome running inside Privacy Guard tool.
Then I have a the latest firefox browser, that I do not use but is my wife’s. And because of the OS and security I have the latest fully upgraded and patched version of IE,

I agree with you. From the articles I have read, Google is a thief, and will steal private information from individuals.

I wouldn’t have renewed my subscription with Avast if I had known Google was allowed to establish a 24 hour a day connection with my computer. This is not obvious when you look at Network Connections, because the connection is labeled Avast, but if you check the IP address, it is really Google.

I don’t know which anti-virus I will use next, but I will do some research, and make sure it’s not associated with Google in any way.

Google invades privacy, gets off easy
This week Germany levied a fine against Google for one of the biggest wiretapping violations in history. The fine? Less than $200,000. Google’s net profits in 2012? More than $10 billion. Imagine a driver of a fancy car caught for speeding and then asked to pay a nickel. Google got off easier.

You seem to have a personal dislike of Google. Simple solution for you is not to use it.
Spreading innuendos doesn’t help your cause. This isn’t a soapbox but a Help Forum.

Hi Johnny4745,

And do you think that Google, Bing, various commercial trackers, Yandex for the Russian speaking world and yes some open software proponents as well are not into the same activities as Google. Scroogle is not around anymore as a search alternative, Google ohne Google → https://www.zotero.org/groups/search_engine_market_mapping/items/itemKey/3VEBD4QC
These are all rearguard actions, because there is no escape really and refraining from google will not result in these data landing there…

I know I have a choice of browsers, and I may have missed a minuscule check box to opt out, and yes developers want to make a living. It should by all means be an opt in. If you have a computer and are savvy enough to have an anti virus and firewall it stands to reason you have a browser of choice. All snide remarks aside above, the fact remains in my opinion, with the current set up of opt out, Avast has become an evil.

My Browser of choice is DUCKDUCKGo. Never heard of it check it out. There is no stopping the way the internet is nowadays with the mining of personal information, but personal decisions can show your dissatisfaction of the way it is. Do I have anything to hide, no, not that I am aware of. But I do mind when something invades my personal property as I feel Avast has done. In my humble ignorant opinion, Avast has become what it started out to protect. Take my opinion or leave it, I am expressing what I feel.

OMG. You people that are Google paranoid are living I’m a box. I use everything Google. All there apps rules and I can sync my Gmail with my Google Drive and Calendar. I have nothing to hide and sending back feed back to Google is unchecked by default in Chrome.

It’s a fact about Google. Google was caught and fined for it. If you read that article you would know that Google was stealing information from private wireless connections, and even getting the people’s passwords.

Using DuckDuckGo means that avast isn’t able to protect you from infected websites.
If that’s worth it to you then be my guest. It’s your computer after all.
If you have an ISP, you’re already giving up all of your information.
Privacy is a thing of the past. If you don’t want someone to know something about you, don’t post it.
Go back to a rotary telephone anything else is smart enough to reveal your information. Sorry but that’s just the way things are.

Privacy is not a thing of the past. My ISP is paid very well to guard my privacy. AT&T will not give out personal information, and it will not publish or give out my phone number.

I don’t pay Google for any service, and Google has no right to steal my personal information.

At least some people are getting fed up with it. Did you read about the people in England that stopped a Google street view car from driving through their neighborhood?

I’m glad to see that some people still think like I do, and don’t have the attitude that that’s the way it is, and privacy is a thing of the past.

Thank you Bob once again. I love posts like these. Google snoops. Lol. That’s hilarious. What are you hiding anyways? Google Antics can be blocked. Do you people always believe every article written?

Oh yeah “If it’s online it must be true” ::slight_smile:

When the article is from a reputable news service like CNN. Yes I believe it.

What I can’t believe is there are people that think it is hilarious that someone is concerned about their privacy.

I have nothing to hide. Do you? Seems like it. When I can Google myself and come up empty I’m pretty satisfied. I also have LifeLock which I got for free.
