In mid-December, installed Windows 8.1 from Windows XP. Have always used Avast so I downloaded Avast15. Ran fine until earlier this week. All of a sudden could not access google.com, yahoo.com, att.net or Kroger.com to name a few. After I went to Active Protection and disabled WebShield I was able to access all those sites. Did an extensive search within the version on my PC and could not find where any steps had been taken by me of the other user of my PC to block those sites. Went to the Avast site and downloaded another copy of AvastFree and installed it. Same result. Could not access the above sites unless I disabled WebShield. Any suggestions?
Rather than disabling the entire “Web Shield” I would try just disabling HTTPS scanning in the Web Shield settings screen and see if that helps.
Many thanks. That works. Still doesn’t answer the question of why do I have to do that to get it to work. Seems to me that it is important to keep HTTPS scanning active as that is where you end up paying for something, isn’t it?
https scanning is a new function in avast 2015.
Although tested, it can always still have flaws.
Keep in mind it is not possible to test things on millions of different systems/configurations before releasing something.
The word is that later this month (some say next month) there will be a new avast release which may improve things.
