Ever since installing Avast 4.7 my Google Toolbar PageRank tool has stopped working. Does anyone know how i can allow the PageRank function to work while having Avast installed?
Come on, i can’t be the only person here who uses Avast and the Google Toolbar!
I use Goggle Toolbar only in Firefox…
It’s not available on Maxthon. So, I hope any other user can help you here…
What do you mean by ‘stop working’?
It always says ‘No PageRank information available’ even if i’m looking at Google.com!!
No need I don’t use IE, firefox is my primary browser and that has google search incorporated into it.
avast shouldn’t block, only scan content, so there is some other interaction involved also. Just what does “my Google Toolbar PageRank tool has stopped working” mean, what errors or warnings are you receiving ?
What AV were you using before avast 4.7 ?
What is your firewall ?
How does PageRank work, where does it get its data from (e.g. secure pages, https, etc.), are parameters passed between pages ?
Well before Avast i was using the trial period of McAfee that came with my new Dell Optiplex.
Standard Microsoft firewall.
I believe PageRank only works if you allow Google to record what sites you are visiting, so maybe it is this that Avast is blocking, but i can’t seem to find away to tell Avast to not block any Google URL’s.
I have since installed Firefox and the Google Toolbar works perfectly with this, so i don’t understand!!!
As I said avast doesn’t block, any blocking or apparent blocking is often a clash between two or more programs.
Since the google toolbar works with firefox, then it is possibly a security issue with IE, like the latest cumulative IE security update ??? and not an issue with avast.
The MS firewall simply doesn’t cut it, there is no outbound protection.
Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential.
Zone Alarm free http://www.zonelabs.com works fine with avast and has a reasonably friendly user interface. There are others, Jetico, Sunbelt Kerio, etc.
See some firewall tests for comparison, some are freeware but many are paid for versions http://www.firewallleaktester.com/tests.php. Also see http://www.thefreecountry.com/security/firewalls.shtml
Mazboy and All! im having the same problem with gooogle page rank. i dont know why but avast is not supporting google page rank option! would somebody please tell us the solution?
Clearly, this issue is not derived from avast. You can re-install it. If that does not work, I suggest you antivirus.
